SCD饮食法的补充剂

Supplements for SCD

There are several different ways to use supplements with the SCD diet. The most important principle being to make sure that your supplements do not contain any illegal additives but exceptions are made for medications that are required.

(Disclaimer: Just because a product is listed as "legal" on this list does not imply an endorsement nor a recommendation of the product. Taking supplements is a personal choice.)

Please be aware that children with very fragile guts may not tolerate some supplements (even legal ones) in the early months of the diet. Even one supplement may sabotage the success of the diet. So one strategy would be to avoid supplements during the early days of the diet if you see no improvemnets. Medications may be custom made without illegal additives by compounding pharmacies. Please use common sense. If you feel a supplement is absolutely necessary, then continue to use it but do not blame SCD if you do not get results while using a supplement that contains illegal ingredients. If you do not get the results you had hoped for, please consider pulling all illegal supplements out and starting over.

Be also aware that many children lose the need for many of the supplements as the gut heals.

Some children react to the illegals in supplements and others can tolerate them. The most important thing that you can do for your child's health is to restore the GI system and get rid of the endotoxins produced by the intestinal pathogens. So, it is optimal to make your supplements 100% SCD legal.

KIRKMAN SUPPLEMENTS
Kirkman Supplements Alert

The following Kirkman Vitamins are no longer SCD legal. We called Kirkman and they confirmed that this is true.

TMG 500 mg with Folinic Acid & Methyl B-12 - Hypoallergenic
294/200
DMG with Folinic Acid & B-12 - Hypoallergenic
295/200
TMG with Folinic Acid & B-12 - Hypoallergenic

Kirkman Multiple Vitamin Pro-Support has removed "no starch" from the label. Someone called to find out why and was told that the chemist says there is a trace amount of starch from the vitamin E.

In-depth checking needs to be done before we safely can say that the other Kirkman supplements are legal. There were several efforts recently to talk to the head of Kirkman but he was unavailable. An employee of the company said that Kirkman specialized in GFCF products.

It is very important for a supplement company to have a good understanding of SCD in order to be able to produce supplements that are compatible with the diet. Elaine helped Freeda to make the supplements that contain the SCD label. All the GI ProHealth supplements are carefully monitored by an expert on SCD.

We hope that an autism organization will provide testing for SCD supplements. Periodic lab testing of supplements is the way to go. Until we get this done, do not blame SCD if you are not getting good results and are using supplements that were not made especially for SCD.

MILK THISTLE

Elaine Gottschall's remarks regarding Milk Thistle:

Is it legal or not? I think the SCD will accomplish everything milk thistle does and will avoid the side effects including diarrhea, etc. But I have no expertise in herbs and some people swear that some herbs have accomplished amazing results. Considering that the report found on Medline came from controlled research under the auspices of NIH and STILL no conclusive answers, how can I give it my stamp of approval? I realize that most people want "black and white" answers from me. In this case, I cannot say it is illegal because it just might hasten up the process of detoxification of the liver. If you have been using it and there has been no diarrhea and you can see results, then use it.

NATURAL ANTIFUNGALS

Natural antifungals include garlic, oil of oregano (OoO), Olive leaf extract (OLE), caprylic acid, Grapefruit seed extract (GSE).

The natural antifungals should be rotated.
